Using a laptop or personal computer (PC) together sometimes makes a person have no privacy space. Surely there are some important files or documents that only want to be kept private and do not want to be accessed by others. By locking a folder on a laptop or PC , you can protect important files and avoid data theft.
There are many ways that can be used to lock a personal folder on a laptop so that no one else knows. Here’s how to easily lock a folder on a laptop that is summarized from various sources:
1. Locking Folders on a Laptop with Folder Guard Software
First you have to download Folder Guard on the official website through a browser. Next, install Folder Guard. After the process is complete, enter the password in the column. Then to lock the folder you want, click “Lock a folder with a password” and select “Browse for folder”. Locate the folder you want to lock. Then, enter the password that you want to use to lock the folder.
It is recommended to use a different password from the password to make it safer then click Next. Leave the options selected by default and click Finish.
Activate the protection mode so that the selected folder is completely locked with a password that has been created and click Protect. Now the selected folder is empty, the file inside is hidden. To open and access the files in the folder, click Unlock then enter the password. Then Enter or click OK.
2. Locking Folders on a Laptop with 7Zip Software
This method can be used on a laptop or computer with Windows 7, 8, and 10. First, download 7Zip for free then install the software. Then select the folder that will be locked by right click> 7Zip> Add to archive (add to archive).
Next 7Zip window appears and select the desired archive format but it is recommended to choose Zip for easy. Enter the password to lock the desired file as a Zip archive then click OK. The folder has also been secured with a password. If someone wants to open the folder and its contents, a password message will appear to access the file.
3. Locking Folders on Laptops without Software
Locking a folder on a laptop can be done without any software. You do this by creating a folder that you want to lock. Then go to the folder and create a new text file by clicking Right> New> Text Document. Enter the script in a text file that you previously copied in Windows default Notepad, namely:
cls @ECHO OFF title Private if EXIST folder “HTG Locker” goto UNLOCK if NOT EXIST Private goto MDLOCKER: CONFIRM echo Are you sure you want to lock the folder (Y / N) set / p “cho =>” if% cho% == Y goto LOCK if% cho% == y goto LOCK if% cho% == n goto END if% cho% == N goto END echo Invalid choice. goto CONFIRM: LOCK ren Private “HTG Locker” attrib + h + s “HTG Locker” echo Folder locked goto End: UNLOCK echo Enter password to unlock folder set / p “pass =>” if NOT% pass% == PASSWORD_DISINI goto FAIL attrib -h -s “HTG Locker” ren “HTG Locker” Private echo Folder Unlocked successfully goto End: FAIL echo Invalid goto end password: MDLOCKER md Private echo Private created successfully goto End: End
Then, replace the text PASSWORD_HERE with the password you want. Next Save As the text file with the name locker.bat. Change Save as type to All Files. When finished creating the locker.bat file, delete the New Text Document file. Then double click on the file locker and the Private folder will appear automatically. Save all the files that you want to keep in the Private folder. When finished, run the file locker again and there will be a black box display. Press the letter Y then Enter. The Private Folder will also disappear.
To access it, just click the file locker twice then a black box appears and enter the password that was created earlier. Private Folders will reappear.
After your folder is locked on your laptop or office PC , of course your privacy is maintained.
